FAQ's - Questions & Answers

How accurate are these tests?

Ultrasound with Doppler is highly accurate and we use the same state-of-the-art technology used in hospitals and imaging centers. All Ultra Sound Test results are performed by Certified Licensed Technicians and verified by a Board Certified Radiologist.

Can't I just go to my doctor or HMO and get these tests done?

Yes, you can ask your primary care doctor, but unfortunately, a doctor cannot typically order these tests unless you have symptoms because these are very expensive diagnostic tests to perform in a hospital to see if you are at risk. We enable people to find out for themselves if they are at risk for vascular disease due to excessive plaque build-up in their arteries as we only detect abnormal versus normal.

Why did my test take 3 minutes and the guy ahead of me took 10 minutes?

Everyone's vascularature is unique and some are easier to visualize than others. Normally lifetime smokers and diabetics are more difficult to view and measure and may take a bit longer.

I ate three hours ago and I forgot to fast for the full four. Can I still have the test?

This type of fasting is not the same as you would do for a blood test. Digestive gases sometimes block the view of the aorta so what we can do is give it a try, the techs will likely be able to get the pictures they need and if not, we can reschedule you for a later date to do it again. It is an "all or nothing" test; either they will see it or they won't.

I'm only 50 years old. Do I need to take these tests?

The vascular tests are recommended for anyone 40 and older. However, some people with a family history of problems or with high cholesterol have taken the tests at a younger age. The osteoporosis test is recommended for women age 40 and older.

Can you send a copy to my doctor?

No. We can only send the results to you and you are free to share the results with your doctor.

Can you give me something I can send to my insurance company?

Yes. Your test result copy is your receipt to keep.

Do insurance companies or Medicare cover these?

No, but we are told that some "flex" plans will. We are not responsible nor do we handle any insurance billings.
